Lives are in Our Hands

This is a short video that depicts the daily struggles that an African woman goes through bearing the fact that she is HIV infected. She is portrayed as one who seeks knowledge from other better informed people like the seminars in South Africa and also contributing to the general knowledge and sensitization about the struggle against HIV in Africa by the infected people. She is also seen to be marshalling a group that creates awareness on the significance of having the HIV drugs available to al those whoa re infected as a measure towards fighting the negative effects of HIV.

The film, based in Nigeria is widely seen to give an objective portrayal of the woman who advocates against HIV and voices the needs of the fellow people who are HIV positive. She is seen to be strong and organizing seminars in condemning the shortages in HIV drugs and uses herself as a living proof of the need to take the drugs. She constantly implies that no one needs to lose hope and wait for death if the drugs are available.

She is courageous and encouraging at the same time to the people living with the virus. She is seen to not only magnify the seriousness of the infections in Africa but also pointing out the right use of the foreign aid and indicating the rightful place that the foreign aid needs to fit into.

Away from the strength of this lady advocate, the film also shows us the weak side of the lady whom most of the time seems too strong to break down. She is depicted as one who can get emotionally overcome to the point of crying when she goes for an appointment with her doctor. The burial of a colleague who passed on from AIDS related infections also tears her down exposing an individual who has two sides, both of which are human and exposes the duality of the effect of HIV in Africa, not just one story, and in this manner making the….....
