Leadership Management Development Programme for Emirates

Leadership and management development is recognized as one of the significant success factors for Emirates. The ability of the company to develop and implement new and creative measures to learning in order to complement best practice and theory is dependent on effective leadership and management programmes and initiatives. The aim of this leadership management programme is to provide guidelines for future LMD initiatives adopted by Emirates. This aim will seek to achieve several objectives including enhancing opportunities for experiential learning based on latest trends in leadership development. Moreover, the proposal seeks to establish measures through which the company's future LMD programmes will optimize the practical component of learning to compliment best practice and theory. Therefore, this Leadership Management Development (LMD) programme seeks to identify leadership and management needs and provide an action plan for enhancing leadership and management training towards the realization of Emirates' business objectives.

The first step in this LMD programme will involve conducting a leadership and management needs analysis to identify the specific leadership and management training needs in light of Emirates' corporate strategies. The needs analysis will be exhaustive since it will examine the current practices of leadership and management relative to best practices. This will be followed by designing training initiatives and programs that will focus on meeting the identified needs in a manner that does not interfere with organizational current operations. The training initiatives will involve examining several alternatives for providing the training such as e-learning strategies and classroom settings. The training mechanisms will be tailored based on Emirates' leadership and management needs and the relevant factors in the company's daily operations and business processes. The third aspect of the LMD programme for Emirates will involve stakeholders-based training evaluation to determine the effectiveness of the programme with regards to meeting the organization's leadership and management needs.

The rationale for this proposed intervention is the need for Emirates to tailor its leadership development to senior management based on organizational needs. This proposal will help ensure that the learning approaches utilized are based on the organization's corporate strategy as well as organizational needs. Therefore, the proposed intervention is need to ensure learning optimizes the practical aspect of learning in order to complement best practice and theory in relation to leadership and management.


However, the implementation of the proposed intervention will be characterized by several challenges that should be addressed to promote the effectiveness of the programme. One of the probable challenges is the fact that Emirates' senior management tend to travel often for official visits and errands that are geared towards improving the company's bottom-line. This LMD programme will address this challenge through implementing a blend of e-learning and classroom settings learning. E-learning strategy will be carried out when these individuals are in other locations following their travels while classroom settings learning will be utilized when the senior management is within the organization. Secondly, the involvement of managers in this process is geared towards making them more effective. However, determining the suitability of an individual in this process is relatively difficult. This programme will examine the manager's performance, ambition, and success to determine suitability for the training. Third, the cost of the programme may be a significant challenge, especially if the company feels it is expensive. Issues dealing with the costs of the LMD will be dealt with through developing the programme based on the organization's budget and identified organizational factors.

This Leadership Management Development programme will be evaluated through stakeholders-based training evaluation given that its focus is on enhancing the leadership capabilities of Emirates' senior management. This evaluation method is selected on the basis that it's tailored to meet the needs of specific stakeholder groups. The evaluation will entail examining the effectiveness of the training on functional areas, particularly the impact of senior management in enhancing Emirates' operations and productivity. The effectiveness of the LMD programme is dependent on whether it contributes to effectiveness of the senior management.
