Sebastian Coe, the "star" of the emotive video in London's bid to host the 2012 Olympics, reflects on the fact that watching the Olympics as a child at home in Sheffield, inspired him. Speaking at the Sport Accord conference in Beijing, Coe emphasised the need to use online communities and new media to stimulate young people's interest in sport and activity. He stressed the need to involve youth to be particularly vital during this time "when 22 million children under the age of five and one in 10 school children worldwide [are] overweight, with physical activity and physical education declining in schools" ("Inspired by the 2012" 2007, p. NA). "Our [London's] challenge is to build a relationship with millions of young people over the next five years, not just in the summer of sport in 2012, and connect them with the meaning of sport and the Games like never before," (Ibid.) Rational for the Research

Competition... This researcher purports that competition contributes to almost every part of individual's personal and professional life. In a figurative sense, this study competes to prove itself to be invaluable. As this study relates relevant information/data from past, along with current considerations related to future Olympics, concerns regarding the impact of Olympic Games are brought into present focus. Consequently, this study "wins" in its stance that in time, this study effort will prove to be a vital, viable contribution to the field of research regarding cities which host the Olympics. This researcher utilizes the following research questions to host this study and acclimatize its focus.

Research Questions

What criteria currently describe the status of East London?

What components contributed to the success of previous games, such as those hosted in Los Angeles during 1984, Barcelona in 1992, Sydney during 2000, and Athens during 2004?

What contemporary components contributed to London being chosen to host the 2012 Olympic Games?

How could the development of social interactions, traditions, community values and interests of local residents potentially impact London?

How might some present potential considerations including increased visitation; destination image enhancement; reduce seasonality; and economic transactions impact London?

Through answers secured from the research questions, along with data/information related in interviews this researcher conducts, the following hypothesis is validated:

Hypothesis

When London invests positive planning pursuits into its position as host for the 2012 Olympic Games, prior to, during and after the immense event, then the impact will consequently return figurative and literal immediate, short-term and long-range profits to London's citizens.

This study also proves feasible, this researcher attests, despite the fact some critical considerations cannot be confirmed until the Olympic Games transpire, a myriad of applicable, pertinent information exists. A number of practical considerations considered regarding the feasibility of this research project include:

The time element, which this researcher estimates, required six months.

Potential ethical constraints that may need consideration may involve confirming credible of individuals participating in interview with this researcher, as well as, ensuring accuracy when transcribing information from interviews.

Obtaining necessary cooperation from interviewees to ensure this project reaches its successful conclusion constitutes another component this researcher assesses.

Determining how significant the costs related to conducting the necessary research added up.

This study "aims" to examine the potential impact of the London 2012 Olympic Games, related to the regeneration of East London.

Managing director Nigel Hugill of property developer company, Chelsfield, purports that although it constitutes an array of ambitious scheme, the Olympics will prove beneficial for London. He states the perks will be fourfold..." ("On the Trail of Olympic Gold; LONDON'S BID to HOST the 2012 GAMES OFFERS the PROSPECT of a BONANZA for BIG Business and the SMALL ENTREPRENEUR ALIKE" 2004, p. 40).

A real political will behind the master planning.

The Government will support infrastructure issues of local roads and bus routes.

London will gain further impetus and recognition - an international recognition.
