Changing Simon's dressings to prevent infection, keeping the leg immobilized for the necessary duration of time, followed by physical therapy to ensure that his muscles do not atrophy are the likely course of treatment. Because of Simon's geographic isolation, some care plan must be created that allows Simon and his family to feasibly receive treatment from competent medical staff. Simon's parents (and Simon, as much as he is capable of doing, given his age) must also know how to monitor their son for signs of allergic reactions or overdoses to any medications he receives, how to monitor and 'rate' his pain on a pain scale, and when to seek immediate assistance -- if for example his asthma is out-of-control or he experiences a reaction to his medication related or unrelated to his asthma. Because of their isolation and busy home lives, additional assistance from a nurse provider may be required to ensure a full recovery.
