pursued my undergraduate degree in Accounting at the American University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, I experienced a revelation: that success is within my reach, and if I can achieve prosperity despite the obstacles placed before me, then anyone with a blend of luck, desire, and character can do the same. Of course the luck aspect is what makes life unfair; the painful reality that no matter how hard some people work they will not have the necessary opportunities or innate talents necessary to achieve their dreams. This was an especially significant realization because of my unique global journey, and the fact that my brand of luck came from the most important person in my life -- my Mother.


When I was a (high school?) student in a tiny town in Pakistan, my Mother gave me the great honor of choosing to gamble her entire life savings on my college education. This decision was more significant in light of the fact that my Father had died of a heart attack when I was just ? years old, leaving my Mother a single parent; furthermore, I was to be the first in our family fortunate enough to travel abroad for my education. I was deeply touched and inspired by her trust in me, and I carry this inspiration with me….....
