An example of a powerful group that supports abortion is the National Organization of Women. They do not see a fetus as a life and do not define it as such. Conservatives have many supporters that respect life and believe that it begins at conception. Many religious organizations support those that are pro-life. Pro-life supporters often come to this conclusion because of their moral convictions. They cannot justify taking a life and many believe that life begins at conception. Many would only believe that abortion is acceptable only if the mother's life is in danger or in severe cases of rape.

The issue of choice could be radically changed if McCain wins the presidency and is successful in overturning Roe v. Wade. Both sides of the political fence can look into the future and see something very good happening or something very bad happening. This is why the presidential candidate is so important - this choice effects more than who is going to Washington in January. This choice also effects whom that president appoints to certain positions while he is in office, namely Supreme Court justices. Sarah Palin supports reversing Roe v. Wade and has no qualms about returning the issue to individual states. In her recent interview with Charlie Gibson, she said, "I am pro-life.

I do respect other people's opinion on this also and I think that a culture of life is best for America" (Palin qtd. On abc.com). The thought of Roe v. Wade being overturned is enough to scare some individuals to vote enough to inspire others to vote. Life is something that all Americans take seriously and this issue is split because of what is being defined as life what is known as free will. In cases of abortion, these two are in conflict with one another and both sides claim they are right. Since we do live in a country that allows us to make up our own minds, we find ourselves bitterly divided on this issue and this is why voters pay attention to politicians and their beliefs. It might seem far-fetched to think that a law can be overturned but this is how such things occur and this is why the issue becomes an even bigger issue in election years. The proposed issue by McCain would radically change if he has his way, appoints conservatives judges, and overturns Roe v. Wade. Some would see it as a step backwards while others would see it as a step in the right direction.
