There is a rise in violence among families and in society and this is attributed to marginalization of a great percentage of the population with children suffering the most due to the "...violence, exclusion, inequity and social, cultural, economic and political crises, and urged the elaboration of models providing a safety net for the poorest of the poor." (cited in: Rodriguez, 1998, p.1)

The report entitled: "Health Issues in Mexico" states that among males aged 15 to 64 that the three leading identified causes of death in Mexico include deaths by:

(1) homicide;

(2) accidents; and (3) cirrhosis. (nd)

Among females the leading three causes of death are those of:

(1) malignant neoplasms;

(2) heart disease; and (3) diabetes mellitus. (Health Issues in Mexico, nd) Tuberculosis is frequent in all regions and among all adults in Mexico.
