Dance Festival Mission Statement

Sebastien Lefrancois' choreography directly addresses the social, political, and cultural causes in this Festival Mission because it is largely predicated on hip hop dancing, and on hip hop itself. Hip hop has always been a medium that speaks directly to the people and which illustrates some of the social inequities in contemporary society. These social concerns are reflected in the type, tempo, and texture of the music that Lefrancois will deploy in his work at the festival, as well as in the upfront, non-compromising stance of the dance itself.

Keith Diorio's choreography will address the cultural themes of this festival by largely focusing as the counterpoint to Lefrancois. Instead of being overt, his choreography will reflect subdued tones and movement, emphasizing the need for social liberty and the sort of social equity that is largely bereft of today's society. It will provide the bondage that Lefrancois work liberates the audience and society from.

2. Sebastien Lefrancois is one of the most exciting young choreographers working today. He has succeeded in pushing the genre of hip hop dance beyond its conventional limitations (which are considerable as is), and transcending different period time pieces and styles. He was perhaps most successful in this endeavor in his work Romeos and Juliettes, which succeeded in updating Shakespeare's timeless classic with modern, hip hop and post hip hop sensibilities.

There are few mediums that Tyce Dioro, his choreography, and his amazing dancing, have not yet graced. He has worked extensively in film with a list of movie credits that range from comedies to thrillers, including 13 Going on 30 and Brad Pitt and Angelino Jolie's vehicle Mr. & Mrs. Smith. He was appeared on numerous television programs dancing, choreographing, and judging other dancers including such prominent ones as The Oprah Winfrey Show and The Academy Awards.

The next video described is Tyce Diorio's Jessica King & Will Wingfield -Contemporary Routine. Astounding slow and moody music characterizes this work. Buoyant springing and stepping accompanies this pieces. Careful interaction between the two dancers emphasizes sensual caring between them.
