I will need to be "on" in terms of being relaxed and confident talking about myself while the interviewer attempts to get to know me.

If this interview was conducted face-to-face I think I would have actually performed better. I am more at ease dealing with interpersonal communications in a face-to-face context. Phones are not really my best medium for communication -- something I need to work on -- and so I probably came across as more nervous from the sound of my voice than if I was in person. The interviewer would probably have put me at ease, had I been able to read her body language, but talking to an electronic rectangle and not receiving any visual or audio feedback for long stretches was a bit disconcerting.
