There are also times when the design and the weight of a helmet can inadvertently snap a rider's neck, and since the helmet is very much like an airbag, there are people who feel that the choice of either wearing a helmet or not wearing one must be left to the rider, and not to the government. Since it is a fact that "we ride, let us decide," said one motorcyclist, which in fact sums up the entire discussion on motorcycle riding in the United States. Today, there are proposals to decide whether or not to let a rider decide on whether he wants to use a helmet for his own safety, or whether he wants to go helmet less and endanger his own life. These are slated to be discussed very soon in the future, and perhaps the motorcyclist will be left alone to make his own choice, but at what cost? Therefore, it would be wisest to follow the rules and get oneself a helmet if one wishes to ride a motorcycle, so that one could effectively protect oneself from fatalities in the numerous crashes that occur on the highways of the United States.
