A variety of forces can change a market, and even kill it off altogether, and if you are not thinking ahead and planning for the future, your business can suffer greatly.

One of the book's other great lessons is that in work or in life, how we react to change can define us as people. Things are not done today they way they were 150 years ago; the automobile has replaced the horse carriage and electricity has replaced kerosene lamps, for example. Change, in business and in culture, is inevitable. Good business leaders have the vision to successfully plan for and manage change, and to start those processes while times are still good. But even business leaders who lack this vision still have the ability to react to change and to accept when it is occurring.
