These steps are geared toward increasing customer sales, thereby increasing company shareholder value for their investments. In the MBS storefronts, bagel-scented air is pumped into the customer seating areas. Obviously, this would hopefully make them hungry for more bagels. Toward the end of the day, the unused bagels are repackaged for sale after 2pm at each of the MBS storefronts.

Other types of process flow step innovations add value by combining steps. This usually happens during the loading and unloading process for the product to provide these efficiencies. Continual product quality inspections happen in this vein during transport and loading/unloading. Also, key steps such as the dough rising is combined with the transportation process to the individual MBS storefronts. Also, on site at each store the toppings are added during the unloading step.

Conclusion

As we have see, the design of the process flow is critical to organizing and managing MBS and adding value at numerous steps during the process flow. We have broken this process flow down into component steps and identified the steps where value is being added through the combination of process steps, encouraging more customer purchase of the product and also the repackaging of leftover bagel products to prevent waste and increase profit by sale to the customers.
