Myers-Briggs is a personality inventory system that is based on Carl Jung's theory of personality types. It has been well researched and is a popular model. Personalities are classified by different categories in which there are two poles by someone can be rated between a spectrum that lies between them. For example, someone can be introverted or extroverted or somewhere in between the two poles. This measure is based off of a self-reported instrument that is non-judgmental and is strictly to help people understand different personality types in themselves and others.

Explain each of the four pairs of letters.(I and E, S and N, T and F, J and Individuals are classified as:

Extroverted or introverted (E or I).

Sensing or intuitive (S or N).

Thinking or feeling (T or F).

Perceiving or judging (P or J).

Introverted and extroversion deal with how likely a person is to engage with others. Sensing or intuitive deals with how people judge various bits of information and thinking and feeling deals with how people process this information. Perceiving and judging deal with how people come to make decisions.

My Briggs-Myers profile is an ENTJ.

4. What are the strengths of your type and what are its short comings that you may need to keep in mind?

In general I believe that I could be a good leader or manager.

I have good interpersonal communication skills and I'm generally a good problem solver so I can make organizational decisions. However, there are many times that I lack attention to detail and have trouble on the more mundane tasks.

5. Analyze the case: Not the type who sees the big picture. Using types, what is the main source of the clash between the manager and her subordinate?

The main source of conflict is that Connie is detailed oriented and the rest of the team is more "big picture" oriented. Connie focuses on the details while Jenny is more focused on the end goals. I like the recommendation that the whole team should do a MBIT session so that they can learn to appreciate each other's personality differences.

6. Why is it important for leaders in an organization to understand the differences in how different types see the world (S vs. N) and how different types make decisions (T vs. F). Be specific using the characteristics of the types.
