It was a beauteous sight to behold.

In writing the brief story passage, I tried to establish a theme of traveling from a place of uncertainty to a place of hope and beauty. In order to convey and develop this theme, I used descriptive language to describe not only the darkness I perceived, but also how the darkness transitioned to light, how the landscape also reflected these changes, and how the road's changes paralleled the change in mood and landscape. I decided to write the above passage in a first person narrative because it allows the reader to understand that this is based on personal experience and allows them to derive secondary meanings from the text. Furthermore, I believe that writing the passage in first person allows the reader to not only be transported and experience my journey, but also to assume my identity and see the world from my perspective, which may in turn, force them to question or realize their view of the world.
