New Parking Technology for the City of Melbourne

Citizens of Melbourne, Australia have recognized for years that parking in a crowded lot or garage is constantly a pain and often consist of driving around in circles for an hour irritating in finding that one open spot that will make their day. Then when they think they have found there spot, they get there and see that it's taken by a small vehicle that they were not able too see way down the lane. Melbourne thought it would be nice if there was an app or system that directed the citizens to an open spot without all the guesswork. Melbourne has come up with a new hassle-free parking system called "ParkiT," (Houston, 2011) that not merely lets parking attendants recognize where open spots are, but then again can likewise ready drivers to open places by means of digital emblems or a mobile app. However, on April 20th the City of Melbourne officially sanctioned a $5.48 million project to renovate the way parking is accomplished all over the city which had been exposed previous this year. The new technology, which will be rolled out among 1 July and 30 October this year, consist of the installation of in-ground sensors in over 5000 parking spaces, license plate recognition systems, a pay by phone trial and modernized hand held strategies for parking officers.

Parking spaces are hard to find and many people have been come frustrated because they are not able to get on work on time because of the delay in parking. However the new current technology will be able to solve this issue because they will be able to use these kinds sensors on each parking space that will be able to connect to a computerized system, basically letting parking managers (and digital signs) know where open spaces are. So this new technology doesn't just help drivers find open parking spaces, but also saves money for parking lot management companies. Those savings could likewise trickle down to lots that charge less for parking, causing in a savings for everyone that will be involved.

These days, a new technology which was developed by Rice University makes looking for an open parking spot a whole lot easier (Jaeger, 2013). Research shows that the parking industry, described as parking facility management, collection and billing, enforcement, and other auxiliary services, is somewhere around $24-25 billion dollar business just in Australia alone. Likewise, the commercial parking lots and garages industry consist of around 3,000 corporations with combined annual proceeds of more than $9 billion.

Further research does show that the parking customer tends to want to start and end their trip without hesitation in regards the details, for instance parking accessibility and expense.
