Of particular importance, is the rising inequality of health care attributed to varying socioeconomic backgrounds. One of the most profound lines in the notes reads, "many times intertwined with poverty are the factors of race, ethnicity, uninsured and underinsured. Cultural barriers, discrimination and lack of appropriate health care are some of the reasons that race and ethnicity are common factors of vulnerability." This line is particularly important given the circumstances prevailing in the market today. According to 2010 census data, nearly 20% of the nation's populations lives with an income under $20,000 a year. However, on a per capita basis, the U.S. generates nearly $50,000 of GDP. Currently in America, individuals are producing nearly $50,000 worth of goods and services while a quarter of society is living under $20,000 a year in wages. This is particularly bothersome as these individuals living under $20,000 often tend to be the most vulnerable as it relates to health care issues. These individuals often have poor diets, poor living arrangements, and poor education. As a result, these issues often compound on themselves resulting in costly health care expenditures for society.
The trend of inequality shows no signs of abating either, which causes alarm. Those who can have access to premium services are now become a narrower and select group. However, through legislation such as the Affordable Care Act, individuals within the lower rung of society's social-economic ladder, can still afford health care.

Inequality is becoming a contentious issue not only within the United States but abroad. Civil unrest, minimum wage arguments, and budget deficits all impact the health care profession in varying degrees. Being aware of the unintended consequences of these concepts on the health care industry is important. Particularly during these tough economic times, health care will be become paramount to society. Health is an expenditure that is none discretionary to a certain extent. People will need to purchase solution to health problems irrespective of what they make or who they are.
