nursing care for as long as I can remember, as a member of a family who commits its life to creating and serving people in it business, nursing care facilities. I understand the inner workings of the business, including the importance of documentation and patient care as well as cost benefits issues, sometimes not understood by all staff. With this experience I have developed a clear understanding of the overall needs of both patients and an evolving health care industry, something I hope to continue to be a part of in the long-term.

How have you been involved in the health care profession in either volunteer or paid capacity?

My experience in health care has been associated with experience working as a volunteer for my family in several residential nursing facilities they are the owners and operators of. In fact most of my volunteer work has been associated with health care of some nature. The Tender Touch Residential Centers have been a part of my life for a very long time and the experiences I have had there meeting and helping the residents with their social needs nursing care has given me a great understanding of the profession of nursing and of my own desire to be a member of a helping profession. Nursing makes sense as a future career for me as my desire to help people and interact with them in this way has greatly enriched my life and I hope the lives of the people I have come into contact with. With this experience I have learned the workings of each of the various jobs in the nursing care center and have learned to understand the demands of them, as well as bonding with residents who I may have never met otherwise.

Volunteering at the nursing homes has been an incredible experience for me and also very rewarding. I developed a stronger relationship with everyone involved and a stronger sense of community, teamwork and civic responsibility. Seeing the joy the residents share with those who help and interact with them has made me realize how passionate I am about helping others.

As I have said the majority of my volunteer experience has bee associated with the care centers my parents own. At the care centers I have assisted every member of the staff with their work, including helping the caregivers feed, bath, and otherwise assist the residents of the facility. I have helped create recreational opportunities for residents, playing scrabble, bingo, cards and even reading to those who need such help.
