Personal Statement

I am applying to study anesthesia nursing. I feel that this speciality is in demand, that I have an interest in it and an aptitude for it, and that this education will help to complement the skills and experience that I have already built up.

I have amassed to this point several years as a critical care nurse. In this time, I have worked at different types of facilities, and has seen how important the anesthesia role is, and that there are opportunities available for someone who wishes to form a speciality in this area. For me, I feel that this move is a good step in my development, building on the experience that I have so far. With several years under my belt, I have a pretty good idea of who I am as a nurse, and what areas are best for me to be in. I feel like with my skill set, I should be doing something that is very important, and valuable for people, so I knew I wanted to have a specialty that really helps people with their pain, and where there is a need for the best people to get into the practice.

There is little doubt that I am motivated to be the best, and to learn more, and never stop learning, because that is the pathway by which people continually improve. I will be able to help more people with a higher level of training, so that is something I want to start building for myself.

My vision of nursing is as someone who brings a lot of caring and compassion to the role. For me, anesthesia is really about minimizing the pain for people, and keeping them in a position where they can get better without pain. So this for me is a big reason why I want to pursue this role above all other roles. I understand that it will require a lot of hard work on my part to get through the academic portion of this, but the reward will be tremendous, because I will be able to make a difference in the lives of people who need it. The move into anesthesia will really help me to fulfill one of the major reasons why I got into nursing in the first place, and provide me with the security that I need going forward, as….....
