At the same time however, there are biblical references made to the city of Rome; in the book of Revelation, Apostle John, uses a parable of a vision of a prostitute "having seven heads and ten horns," to the city or Rome and its seven hills that are to this day symbols of the city, and the Roman Empire who dominated the world but would eventually succumb. Therefore, the physical image of the city is present in some writings from the first century as well.

Still, probably the most important one being that of Paul in his address to the Romans. According to his writings, Rome was a city of both believers and sinners. Despite this, Paul expresses the special nature of the people of Rome, who, even though are reluctant to the Christian faith, they are called saints ("to all who are beloved R13 of God in Rome, called as saints") Moreover, in arguing the reason for writing the letter towards the people of Rome, Paul points out that "your faith is being proclaimed throughout the whole world.
" He goes on praising their faith and dedication "that I may be encouraged together with you while among you, each of us by the other's faith, both yours and mine." This is indeed recognition of the special place the city would eventually receive in the wider context of Christianity.
