Patriot Act became part of the United States' law following its enactment in 2001 for the purpose of uniting and strengthening the country by providing appropriate tools that are necessary in barricading and interrupting terrorism acts. The law was also enacted with the dignified objective of spotting and indicting global terrorists operating on America's soil. Since its enactment, the legislation has continued to draw sharp controversies due to the emergence of ethical concerns and homeland security implications. The huge debates have regarding the Patriot Act has risen because of certain provisions in the legislation with both republicans and democrats raising various issues. However, while the controversies have become synonymous to the legislation, the act has various advantages especially on America's homeland security. Permitting Government to Use Techniques and Tools:

According to reports by the Department of Justice, one of the major benefits of the Patriot Act is that it has allowed the American government to use tools and techniques against terrorists and crime ("Importance of the Patriot Act" par, 9). The legislation has provided various tools to law enforcement agencies and permitted investigators to use suitable and available tools in the fight against crime, drug trafficking, and terrorism.
Some of these measures and techniques include the authority given to law enforcement agencies to use surveillance against more terrorists' activities.

Use of Harsher Punishment against Terrorism:

The other benefit of the Patriot Act is that it has increased penalties for convicted terrorists and their allies both locally and internationally. These efforts have been coupled by the removal of some legal restrictions for certain terror crimes and expansion into other terrorism activities. Actually, the legislation not only improves the penalties for conspiracy but it also enhances the insufficient maximum penalties for terror crimes like arson and destruction of energy facilities.….....
