Jamil, who had supported me financially and emotionally during these tough times, persuaded me to continue my studies when I felt ready.

For nearly a decade I struggled to redefine myself in a completely foreign culture. It has been difficult but after we had our first son a year ago, my perspective shifted and life situation has become more stable. Now that I have also become more proficient in English and rooted in my community, I am well-prepared to meet the challenges of university-level courses here in the United States. I am therefore applying for admission to the Doctor of Pharmacy program, to complete the education I started years ago in my home country.

My academic background will illustrate that I am nothing but focused and dedicated and that I will make an ideal candidate for the program. Because I have already taken many of the prerequisite courses here and in Asia, I have a solid scholastic foundation from which to draw on. However, I still require the rigors of the doctoral degree program in order to become a working pharmacist. I look forward to working with the faculty at the university, learning about their personal projects, their ongoing studies, and hopefully helping them to perform laboratory research. At the same time I look forward to learning the hands-on work of the pharmacy industry.

My long-term goal is to work with the public as a pharmacist. However, before I do I would also like to do research in a lab, possibly as an intern.
I hope that through the doctoral program I will be able to pursue research assistance and internship opportunities that will enrich my understanding of what pharmaceutical creation entails. By experimenting first hand with the laboratory, clinical aspect of the business, I will feel better prepared to answer questions and guide consumers' choices. I feel that since advertising of pharmaceutical products has become legal in the United States, consumers often feel confused. The variety of products on the market can be overwhelming, and I would love to be able to assist others in selecting the right products for them. Furthermore, I look forward to becoming an active participant in the local medical community, perhaps by working with resource centers that provide health care to the needy.

I believe that my difficult life experiences will become an asset for me as I commence my graduate studies in pharmacy. Not only have I become psychologically stronger and more confident, but I will also be able to share my experiences with other students and professors in the program. Therefore, I will enrich the diversity of the student body at the university. I look forward to interacting with other students and professionals from around the world, persons who share my passions and my dreams. Together we might be able make a difference in promoting educational opportunities for women throughout the world, encouraging others like me to fulfill their lifelong dreams. Thank you for your consideration......
