There are a number of fields where personal beliefs and practices can run counter to what is present and obvious in the life of one's clients and even one's coworkers. This can present a challenge as it is hard for many people to separate their personal values and their professional values. Often times, these values are one and the same even when that is not the mandate and requirement of the employer in question. The problem with that mindset is that passing judgment or aspersions of the choices and mindsets and others when they have just as many rights to feel as they do, at least in most cases, is not the right thing to do. While setting aside one's personal beliefs and convictions is not the easiest thing to do, it is the right thing to do unless the conviction or belief is clearly illegal or counter-productive.

Analysis



When it comes to Eboni and her viewpoints, one has to remember the concept of negative liberty. Generally, negative liberty refers to the idea that people should be left alone and not harassed when it comes to their personal beliefs and culture. In the vast majority of cases, this is entirely possible and practical even if it is hard for some people to avoid passing judgment.
Social workers and people in other fields such as healthcare and the like have to commit to this ideology much more so than others as the likelihood that they will run into patients or clients of differing cultures or belief structures is likely. However, those workers need to realize that faith, culture and so forth is the choice and freedom of the people involved so long as no abuse is being rendered or other laws are being broken. For example, many people believe that spanking is acceptable as a part of an overall discipline structure for a child. Others believe it is abuse and should never be happening. Regardless, a social worker has to go by what the law is and that is generally the idea that spanking is legally permissible so long as the child is not being struck in the head or face, no marks are being given and no weapons/switches are being used (Reamer, 2013).



Anyhow, the question becomes how all of this can be used and employed when it comes to the untimely and unplanned….....
