Furthermore, in this game of "cat and mouse," the law enforcement officers being the cat, they have to think and act in the way that criminals do in order to catch them- officers need to anticipate criminal actions. By doing this, officers need to be "at one" with criminals thus making criminals and officers to employ very similar ways of thinking. Thinking and operating in the same manner and anticipating one another's moves allows criminals and law enforcement officers to utilize the same skill set and mentality in order to stay one step ahead of the other.

Despite these similarities, it is important to delineate the differences between police and criminals, which includes, the police being moral and ethical, using their propensity for violence to ensure the safety of the community they are protecting and ultimately using their status in society for good. Being moral and ethical are two traits that criminals lack, as they operate outside of the law and are not thinking about the implications of their actions.
Police use their propensity for violence and their comfort with handling weapons and to protect citizens of the community- they use their weapons with rules and operate under the law and rules of their department. Police use their status in society for good, to keep people safe and provide justice for those who are wronged.

There is a fine line between criminals and police, one that can be crossed if actions are not thought about thoroughly before doing them; though, ultimately, police are the police and criminals are criminals because of the line that is drawn between them- however fine the line may be drawn, there is still a line......
