How Family Environment Factors into Child DevelopmentFamily environment plays a significant role in the development of a child, including their behavior. Several factors within a family can influence juvenile delinquency, including parental supervision, conflict, socioeconomic status, substance abuse, and parental criminality vs. presence. For instance, lack of proper supervision often leads to a higher chance of juvenile delinquency, as the child may not have enough guidance to make good decisions or may engage in risky behaviors to seek attention (Adisa et al., 2021). Also, families with high conflict levels may cause stress and instability, leading to a child seeking solace in negative behaviors. There is also the fact that families with low socioeconomic status may expose children to environments with higher crime rates or may not provide resources necessary for a child's healthy development (Fontaine et al., 2019). The same holds with a child exposed to parental drug or alcohol abuse being at a higher risk of delinquent behavior.
