Ruby concentrates on sources of co-operation, or resources, which would or would not be available in a student's life by means of realistic teaching techniques. Resources are significant assets including mental stability, emotional co-operation, and physical health - and the other resources which students have, the more they would be to attain their objectives. 'A Framework for Understanding Poverty' is thus a book which is useful for teachers. It derives from several years of experience in multiple school systems, and also a wide level of academic positions. In this popular book, the author shows the issues which are primary to teaching students who live in poverty, then takes the next step by providing successful solutions teachers can apply immediately to better the quality of teaching in their classrooms. (Books Published by aha! Process, Inc.) significant caveat for purchasers would be that the book is free of content which also contains peer-reviewed empirical findings.
It is similar to fragmented groupings of chapters which enable the spread of the idea that a poverty culture would create children who would not be successful in the classroom or later. Even when the literature predating the War on Poverty such as provided by Payne was filled with studies which showed causal factors, some of the recent empirically-referenced works including Rebecca Blank's, "It Takes a Nation: A New Agenda for Fighting Poverty," takes a more balanced side. That understanding studies both the cultural along with the structural features of poverty and their influence on populations which are at danger, especially which are dangerous to women, children, and individuals of color.
