Emergency Management

Over the last several years, there have been numerous challenges associated with natural disasters and the impact they are having on stakeholders. To make matters worse, advancements in technology have increased the overall scope of threats to infrastructure and other targets through cyber attacks. This is problematic, as these kinds of incidents could have an adverse effect on individuals, communities and the nation. To deal with these challenges requires creating a strategy for mitigating the impact of these disasters. This will be achieved by analyzing the steps for all levels of government and the private sector before / during / after them. Together, these different elements will highlight the best approach for addressing these issues and it will assist health officials in reducing the total amounts of collateral damage. County Level Response Procedures

The county must be prepared to work with nonprofit organizations, the private sector and citizens to be able to asses / decrease the risks from these disasters. In this case public health officials must create a chain of command, procedures for identifying possible challenges and strategies for dealing with a variety of contingencies. This is accomplished by taking a look at the current structure and resources available. Then, they are working with stakeholders to create a plan that will define each of the various roles in the process.
Prior to any disaster, this will serve as a foundation for helping to establish a protocol for addressing a variety of events. To help prepare everyone; requires having mock exercises. This allows the different parties to test their levels of readiness and deal with critical weaknesses. During and after the disaster, this will enable everybody to reduce the underlying amounts of collateral damage and casualties. In this case, public health officials must take the lead by dealing with the immediate crisis on the ground and improving coordination among the various entities on the local level. Those who are able to do this will be more responsive to the needs of stakeholders and can prevent a situation from becoming worse. As a result, one could argue that effective preparation is the key for ensuring the various parties have the resources and tools they need in achieving numerous objectives. State Level Response Procedures

The state can provide additional assistance and personnel to prevent a disaster from becoming worse (i.e. The National Guard and other agencies). Their job is to fill the gaps in the county's strategy and to offer added amounts of support / resources.
