Conclusion

The advent of free shareware and software is not new, however, it has recently become available to combat the high cost of some of the largest software companies and program in the world. The danger of such sites becoming so popular that they eventually create a negative financial issue for companies such as Microsoft is becoming a reality. Because the software is designed and distributed by individuals there is also a possibility that serious viruses can be loaded into them and destroy large numbers of computers worldwide.

While the concept of OpenCD is an interesting one, it walks the line that is similar to that of pirated software. It is a concept that cannot be stopped because it is not doing anything illegal however, it opens the door for illegal activities to occur in the quest to improve the programs.

The open source software industry and sites such as OpenCD need to be regulated and monitored for the good of the computer industry and those who use it......
