Social and Behavioral Intelligence: Professional Attire

Were the individuals professional?

In considering the images of the individuals in the business professional slides, several things become apparent. The first image is professional as the men are wearing suits and ties which is considered professional attire. For the women, the corresponding attire is wearing button down shirts with one wearing a vest over the shirt. In the second image it is clear that the man is professionally dressed as he is wearing a suit. The other five people are wearing button down shirts which are considered professional. However, it would also be important to know in what color these shirts are, as well as what they are paired with, to consider their attires professional. The third image reveals unprofessional business attire as sweaters are worn. In some settings, this may be acceptable but in a strictly business professional setting, they are not considered professional.

What made the individuals professional?

Suits are considered professional and accepted business attire. These can be in darker colors, preferably navy blue, black and brown. Buttoned down shirts are also considered acceptable attire in the business setting. (A Quick Guide to Professional Dress for Men and Women, n.d.). Thus the first two slides display professional attire.

Unprofessional attire and presentation of self

Unprofessional attire for women in business setting includes low-necked blouses, tops without straps, short skirts that are more than two inches above the knees, very high-heeled shoes, and tight skirts. For the men, jeans, khaki trousers, shirts that are not tucked, faded clothes, and shirts with flowered, or various design prints. It is also considered unprofessional to wear brightly colored, printed clothes especially flowered ones in the business setting (Business Attire, n.d).

Unnatural hair color colors such as pink, blue and green is unprofessional as are large uncoordinated handbags. A person having large earrings, many piercings, and very pronounces nail polish is also considered unprofessional (Business Attire, n.d.).

Part 2

Appropriate attire in my profession.

In business, it is thus appropriate to wear formal and thus acceptable attire when presenting oneself. This would consist of suits for the men in dark colors and earth tones such as charcoal and brown. This too would go for the ladies who can wear skirt suits or trouser suits that are not broken.
