This section is typically a detailed amplification of the project SOW and mission from the Project Charter. This also includes how you intent to accomplish the project. "We intend to do this. . . And here are the steps we intend to use to accomplish the project."

This section is typically a detailed amplification of the SOW product description from the Project Charter. What will the product of the project look like or what should it be able to do when completed?

Island Spa will accommodate the growing demand for upscale services in stress management and will offer the personal care, grooming, and hygiene services to professionals living in the target area. Island Spa will offer standard spa services such as massages, facials, manicures, and pedicures, as well as tanning services. When Island Spa is completed, it should be able to provide a complete spa experience for its visitors, providing all non-hair upscale personal care services.

Project Deliverables

What are the tangible outputs or services of this project? What big-picture items will have to be created or performed in order to accomplish the statement of work? These are the deliverables to be found in the WBS.

The deliverables for this project are two-tiered. First, the project must find a suitable space for the spa, outfit the spa for services, employ personnel, and market the services to the community in order to be able to provide services to potential customers. Second, the spa must deliver these services to its customers in a stress-free environment, which involves punctuality, professionalism, and high-quality pampering services that focus on individual desires without impacting service quality for the other customers.

Project Objectives

What are the cost, schedule, and quality objectives of this project?

The estimated start-up cost for this project is $68,000. The start-up cost includes enough money to build-out and equip the rental facility, rent for the first six months, utilities for the first six months, marketing costs, and employee salaries for the first six months.
Employees will be on a part-time schedule when first hired, but will be guaranteed minimum hours so that the business can meet consumer demand. The schedule for the project is: research competitors (month 1), choose services (month 1), scout locations and sign lease (month 2), renovate and build out rented space (months 3-4), purchase equipment (months 3-4), hire personnel (months 3-4), begin advertising campaign (month 4), and have the grand opening (beginning of month 5), promotional half-price services (month 5).

Project Assumptions

What are the assumptions on which the project is based?

This project is based on the assumption that there is a large target market within the location chosen. A secondary assumption is that user loyalty will allow Island Spa to develop a monopoly in upscale spa services targeted towards professionals in the area.

Project Constraints

What are the major limiting factors that affect the project?

Licensing is the major limiting fact affecting the project, because employees and the facility have to meet state and local licensing requirements. This major requirement is further limited by the financial limitations of the project. Financial limitations may also lead to space limitations.

Exclusions

What are the boundaries of the project? What is to be included and what is to be excluded from the project?

The boundaries of the project are limited by the budget as well as the location. For example, the Spa will not offer haircare or cosmetic services. One reason for this is that many of the available retail rental locations prohibit leasing to multiple haircare facilities and already have established salons. The size of the space will also provide some boundaries; the fact that only a single room will be available for massages and services such as body wraps will limit the number of appointments that can be set.

Acceptance Criteria

What must the product be able to do when completed to be acceptable to the customer? What standards or regulations must the….....
