Egocentric thinking refers to viewing everything in relation to their won self. Egocentric thinkers are self-centered they only put into consideration their interest. It involves thinking about oneself only being concerned with oneself. Egocentric thinking involves thinking about things that one want since that is what is mostly important to them. At no pint will an individual think about what someone else might need or want because they care less about what other people think. Egocentric thinkers think the whole world revolves around them and think that other people should only be concerned about what the person wants and interest them. Egocentric thinking makes an individual to become closed minded to thoughts and ideas. This destroys an individual's critical thinking capacity since they are only inclining towards their own ideas and thoughts without considering what other people might want (Simon, 2009).

Egocentric thinkers might use ethical terms in their rationalization but they are not responsive to ethical considerations. Egocentric thinking is indifferent to ethical principle.
The only instance where egocentric thinking can take other into account is when it is forced to do so in order to get something. Egocentric politicians only take into account the views of the public only when their reelection is dependent on the support of these people. A highly skilled egocentric thought can be created in various types of human situations.

We can look at an example of a couple peter and Jane who have a routine of renting movies. Peter inevitably wants to rent packed movie while the wife wants a romantic movie. Even though Jane willingly sets her choice and goes with Peter, he is never willing to go with James choice. Peter rationalizes his position to Jane that movie choices are better since they are action packed, because romantic movies are boring and slow moving, because his movie often win awards while Jane's choice make people cry.
