This study on the relationship between length of acquaintance and stereotype accuracy highlighted the importance of length of acquaintance in relationships in order to best assess an individual's personality. In this study conducted by Eid and Lischetzke, the authors delved into the components that act as mediators of individuals with extrovert personalities. In assessing these mediators, the authors determined pleasant-unpleasant trait mood and mood regulators such as mood repair and mood maintenance as its main factors. Through regression analyses, the authors determined how pleasant-unpleasant trait mood and mood regulation are scrutinized and specifically detected for high correlations. Through three study designs Eid et. al. determined the nature and absence or presence of the relationship between extraversion and pleasant-unpleasant trait mood and mood regulation.

The first study conducted looked into individuals who were categorized as having extravert personality, gauging as a follow through, their levels of trait mood and mood regulation.

In the first study, analyses conducted on these mediators showed that mood maintenance is related more exclusively to extraversion than mood repair.

A second study design was conducted and implemented as a result of the first study. Under this design, the authors streamlined the mood regulation factors to make it more deterministic, as they sought to establish relationships between mood repair and mood maintenance and extraversion. The second study conducted was consisted with the first findings of the research, wherein mood maintenance was shown to have an "indirect affect" on extravertsion or extravert personality (1141).

The third study introduced a new group, introverts, into the study. With two groups under study, and using the same set of mediators, it was found out that "[a]s expected, extraverts (compared to introverts) were also better able to maintain a more positive affect balance" (1151). The findings of this study demonstrated that a specific personality type, extraversion, was found to have, indeed, been mediated by mood regulation: slightly by mood repair, and greatly by mood maintenance.
