Economists for example should also research the effect of the bill on specific sectors of the nation, such as the poor, and those who depend upon specific energy industries for their wealth. If such research is used to demonstrate to the public the specific projections for the future by means of a generally available report, it may be easier for citizens to accept any sacrifices that need to be made.

The public can also be included in the decision-making process that would benefit the environment and long-term sustainability. Representatives from the public, as well as stakeholders from various industries should be included in the decision-making process. These stakeholders can then provide valuable input in finding a compromise between the need to ensure sustainable livelihoods and ensuring a sustainable environment for the future.

In its current form, I therefore do not believe that the Waxman-Markey bill should be accepted into parliament.
