Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology

Advantages and disadvantages of RFID technology to the organization

RFID technology has many benefits over traditional technologies as it changes the process becoming automatic. Conventional tracking technologies require manual connections, which include labor intense, very time intense and error vulnerable. With RFID technology, it has notable advantages that can raise the performance of management and inventory.

Efficient Inventory Tracking system: The main benefit to using RFID in the company is to improve inventory monitoring, especially where the technological innovation is not required to read RFID labels. At any given time, inventory can be performed in a highly effective way. RFID uses real-time, high precise technique to monitor raw materials, and work in processing item and finished items. All inventory levels and safety inventory in the company can be monitored within a second. With RFID technology, inventory can be modified immediately without scanning, item movement, or human participation. The completely automated system also allows inventory status to be determined and generate records immediately. Besides, it also signals the retail outlet once the last piece of an item is purchased and avoiding out-of-stock cases (In Sheta & in Ayesh, 2013).

Not all the applications of the technology are perfect in every way, especially RFID that uses radio wavelengths to deliver signals. RFID faces many issues notably collision. Collision is experienced when the signals from two or more users overlap or more than one tag read at the same time, and the tag cannot react to multiple questions. Therefore, some labels will not be read while others will be read twice resulting in readers' mix-up or confusion. In addition, the RFID reader will find it hard to distinguish between inbound data because the reading time is fast. This issue does not happen in bar code technology because when bar code is scanned, it is immediately confirmed from the scanner. To avoid tag crashes, integrators use multiple accesses that will enable the readers programmed to read at different periods, rather than both trying to study at the same time (In Simply, people are directed to read at different periods, rather than both trying to read at the same time. This guarantees they do not interfere with each other. Besides, many systems are….....
