Human trafficking takes place internationally and in the United States on a much wider scale than might be normally assumed by an unknowing populace. Whether the citizens of the United States acknowledge the scope of the human trafficking that take place may not necessarily mean that they view it as a big problem, or even an issue that they should be concerned with. It could be an issue that they need to address and they may not even know it.

A recent study determined that even though the United States is attacking the issue in three primary areas, there are still an estimated a large number of individuals trafficked in the United States. The study found that "confirmed numbers of individuals trafficked in the United States are impossible to obtain, but in the last decade, the federal government has settled on an estimated average of 14,500 to 18,000 per year" (Harvard Law Review, 2013, p. 1014).

In that regard, this study will look at the issue of Human Trafficking and determine two possible ventures into that world. Two hypotheses will be examined in order to concentrate on a Final Project that will both be informative and helpful in addressing the problem.

The first hypothesis is that human trafficking is much more prevalent in American society and that it has an overall detrimental effect on that society. The variables that the study will take a look at are the numbers of individuals involved in trafficking along with the three areas that trafficking is most prevalent in.

Those three areas include; labor, drugs, and human trafficking in sexual exploitation (primarily of women). The variables include the negative impacts of human trafficking and the positive impacts of addressing the ongoing problem.
