Is there a clear relationship between reading, family, and religion? Most people might not see it immediately. However, there is actually a definite relationship between these three aspects of life. This fact becomes all the more clear when they are considered in an academic context. Reading, family and religion are all things that I can become passionate about. The truth is that when one such as myself is passionate about reading texts for religion, one will inevitably read about the value of family. Therefore, passion about reading about religion actually reinforces family values.

One of the best examples of the preceding thesis statement is found in the passion that I and others exhibit for reading the bible. The bible is arguably the most popular book of all time. It has been translated into so many different languages, and has a number of different versions and editions. There are people who read the bible so much that they memorize it, which certainly demonstrates a true passion for reading. Still, there are a number of different passages in the bible that are expressly about family. So when people like myself are reading the bible they are not only reading about religion, but also reading about a number of family values.
For instance, one of my favorite stories is when one of Noah’s children’s covers him when he is drunk illustrates the love of a son for a father (Stedman). Reading these stories out of the bible strengthens family values.

Another good example of how passion for reading about religion underscores family values is found in examples of worship. Regardless of which particular religion someone worships, I know most religions have passionate reading about them while people are in houses of worship. Whether the faithful are gathered in a synagogue, mosque, or church, in most instance worship will include passionate reading about some part of the particular religion. What is important about this fact is how the stories pertain to family. Jewish people, for example, believe in the Old Testament. During the Sabbath I have seen them read about how important it was for God to give Abraham a son, which illustrates the importance of family (King). Reading such stories during worship supports family values.
