network I am on is a relatively typical one, taking into account that it involves a series of computers being connected to the network via a login server, an address server, a file server, and a remote access server. All of these are protected by a firewall and then connect directly to the internet. The firewall is designed to prevent attacks from reaching various locations on the network. Protection also comes from the inside through the login server, taking into account that users are limited in their actions by the degree to which they have access to certain places on the network.

Users can also be limited in their actions by web servers and mail servers connecting to the internet. These respective servers need to be functional in order for users to be able to access their emails or to access the web. Individuals working on my network often tend to address the network itself, claiming that it is down, while the mail server or a series of other problems might cause their limited access.

Other problems normally associated with surfing the web can often appear as a result of the fact that the firewall having an issue.
In situations when the whole network is down the problem is likely to be more serious, as all computers should normally have access to it. Even in cases when the network seems to be down, the problem is likely to be with the user's computer rather than with the entire network.

Remote access has gradually become one of the most convenient methods of connecting to servers. The fact that there are a multitude of companies providing remote access to their services makes it especially effective for programs to be used through remote access. In order to connect to the network the user has to login to a server containing the information available on the respective network. Users benefit from the fact that they do not always have to be physically present in order to access documents they need and that are on the school's network. Traditional computer networks in schools could only provide students with information during the time they spent in computer classes or the library.
