Effects of Career Orientation On Intrapersonal Issues of Re-Entry Women and Their Career Penalty

Title of Journal Publication: Global Management Review

Identify at least three key issues, concepts (ideas), propositions or theories that have been discussed in the literature review. How have these issues informed or influenced the current paper and its research questions? (Paraphrase -- i.e., use your own words)

Intrapersonal Re-entry issues: More often than not, intrapersonal re-entry issues are deemed as insufficiencies and paucities that are present within re-entering women. This issue has influenced the prevailing paper and its research questions as the research study attempts to examine the link between career penalty and intrapersonal problems of re-entry. In particular, aspects such as stress, loss of self-esteem, guilt as well as conflict are perceived as vital interpersonal issues experienced by re-entering women (Kok and Van der Westhuizen, 2003).

2. Perceived Career Penalty: Women who take a break from their careers face plunging mobility in not only their wage but also status as it adds to decreased earnings growth. Several employers have adverse and biased beliefs regarding women married to other women or those that have children, deeming them to be less dedicated to their work or companies. Work breaks more often than not result in re-entering women experiencing reductions in wages and have an impact on the chances of promotion (Staff and Mortimer, 2012). This influences the research study as it encompasses the core objective of measuring the magnitude to which career penalty faced by women executive has on them as they re-enter the labour force subsequent to a break in their career.

3. Career Orientation: Career placement takes into account a person's work preferences and choices and the manner in which such an individual aligns himself or herself in the career in the course of one's life. It is imperative to note that several people, in essence, develop a design of job inclinations on the basis of not just their welfares and safeties, but also on the manner in which they desire to work (Aisenbrey et al., 2009).
According to literature, it is deemed that there is a strong relation between career placement and penalty handed. The study outlines the role that career placement and alignment plays in the relationship between intrapersonal issues and career penalty given to returning women (Judge and Livingston, 2008; Gangle and Ziefle, 2009).

Discuss the data collection and analysis methods:

To begin with, the collection of data from the participants was voluntary. The data collection methods used in the research study were surveys and questionnaires. In particular, the undertaken survey was purposed to gather information concerning their intrapersonal matters of re-entry. The questions encompassed within the questionnaires included career placement, apparent career penalty and issues dealing with intrapersonal re-entry. With respect to the latter, the measure was conducted at the outset of the questionnaire to preclude the answers of the participants from being biased by the answers to other measures. The research study employs statistical techniques such as correlation and regression analysis for the purposes of measuring the significance of the relationship between independent and dependent variables. For instance, a linear regression was conducted to determine the strength of the correlation between career orientation and perceived career penalty. What is more, the research study employed structural proposed model (SEM) to examine the suitable indices of the proposed model and ascertain the impact of the intervening variable.
