" Each of these are fairly straightforward. Giuliani included many clear examples of each behavior in work, sometimes showing himself or other politicians, like Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush, in perspective. He did not always use positive examples, however. Instead, sometimes he explained how he learned these tough lessons through not making the right choice.

Some of the issues that I did not find to be good advice were on loyalty, surrounding yourself with great people, and reflecting before making decisions. Chapter Six, entitled "Reflect, Then Decide," repeats many of the maxims from an earlier chapter on being prepared. The chapter also seems to offer information that is so basic that it is unnecessary. One would hope that, if someone is in a position of power, they would know already that they should weigh out all of the options before making a big decision.

Similarly, Chapter Five's suggestion to "Surround Yourself With Great People" seems to be bad and/or unnecessary advice. Most people do not need to be told that they should hire the best person for the job. Giuliani points out that some people hire other people's sons for positions and I suppose that is the only time when this suggestion would really be useful. Finally, in the loyalty chapter Giuliani makes some important points about loyalty and its importance. Yet, the way that he frames it makes both himself and the example of Ronald Reagan look bad. He emphasizes Reagan's choices to defend those who he worked with even when they were wrong; rather than making him a good leader, I disagree with Giuliani and instead believe that this sort of rigid thinking makes people poor leaders.
