The purpose of The Secret is to retranslate the core concepts of the law of attraction, to make it an accessible concept for modern readers.

In The Secret, the key points of advice include focusing on the positive rather than on problems. Also, Byrne advises engendering a feeling of gratitude. Gratitude helps keep the mind focused on the positive, with the ultimate goal of attracting more positive things. The general idea is that "like attracts like." Focusing on lack, illness, poverty, or anger will only attract more of the same. On the other hand, focusing on abundance, health, and love will attract those elements.
