At the beginning, Twain makes it clear that she is happy she chose her husband for a partner, and that he's "still the one" she loves and admires. She also makes it clear that others were against the match, and predicted they would not "make it" as a couple. This shows how outside influences can often doom a relationship. Later, she celebrates the fact that she and her husband did not listen to the nay-sayers. She says, "I'm glad we didn't listen / Look at what we would be missin'." She also shows that their relationship has not become tired or old in any way when she says "You're still the one I kiss goodnight." All of this is a celebration of her relationship and commitment, but it is also a deeper look into relationships in general, and what types of forces can tear them apart. She is proud of the fact that they have stayed together despite the odds, and she is happy in the relationship, that is clear.

There is also some anger in this song, and that seems important to note. It is clear that Twain is literally "thumbing her nose" at the people who said she and her husband's relationship would not last. There has to be a little bit of pride in her words, but there is a hint of anger too, and that seems natural. She sings, "They said, 'I bet they'll never make it,'" and you can hear that the doubts of others really hurt and confused her. It is not surprising, because it seems that "friends" who only predict the worst are not really friends, and that is another message inside the words of this song. It seems that outside forces can often spell the doom of a relationship, and the anger she feels about that is real and quite apparent in this song.
Not all love songs hold hidden anger, and that is another element of this song that sets it apart.

This is an interesting song, and pretty to listen to. If you don't really pay attention, the words seem quite simple too - even simplistic. However, when you break them down and really analyze them, you can find much more depth and meaning to the song and to the singer. This song shows how important relationships are to Twain, because she knows how fragile they can be. Everyone seems to know the story of her losing both her parents in a car accident and stepping in to raise her younger brothers and sisters. It is a remarkable story, and it shows that family is one of the most important things to her. Because of that, it is easy to see that this relationship is very important to her. It is important to make it work, and it is important to prove to the negative people in her life that they were wrong. She seems like a strong woman, and she seems to be saying with this song that no one should ever second-guess….....
