The fact that they are so tied up to the unbroken oral tradition of the people links them to the present day Hindu tradition.

Compared to the Vedic Aryans' reverence for the spoken word - and the ways in which it connected them to history - the current conception of spoken language in the United States seems rather superficial. While we take it for granted that we need speech in our everyday lives as a means for communication and getting through basic activities, our reliance on speech does not go much beyond this. It certainly does not connect us to history or culture - we rely on writing in order to cement important legal issues, as well as leaving traces of ourselves behind.

However, spoken communication does connect us with the past in certain ways. The interview is a popular form for both social scientists and the mass media.
But where we are able to record our speech through a variety of mediums - including video, sound, and the written word - the Vedic Aryans had to wait until the invention of writing to lodge the myths and stories of their culture into posterity. Ironically, it is through the preservation of their language and culture through writing that we are aware that the Vedic Aryans existed. Since there is no other trace of their culture, they would have otherwise been washed into oblivion by history. This is how spoken language ultimately preserved the culture of the Vedic Aryan people......
