Statistical Research II

Measuring a given construct within a statistical study is done by sorting the numerical data obtained during the study's administration of surveys and/or questionnaires to identify the baseline reference point. Calculating the mean, median and mode of the various data points gathered during the survey period, the data set's baseline is then utilized to quantify various constructs within the study's purview. When one refers to the Mean, this is the technical term what we know as the "average" in everyday vernacular. In other words, the mean is equal to the sum of all the numbers or quantities in a data set divided by the amount of data points added. When examining a distribution of numerical entries, the mean is best visualized as the point of balance, because when a basic data distribution is depicted as a plotted curve, the mean is equivalent to the exact peak or valley of the curve. Within the realm of statistics, the mean is used to conduct various forms of advanced analysis, because mean "uses every value in the data and hence is a good representative of the data … (and) is therefore the measure of central tendency that best resists the fluctuation between different samples" (Manikandan, 2011).

The Mode is simply a term used to identify the numerical value that can be found most often within a particular data distribution, but statistical analysts generally agree that "mode is the most intuitive measure of central tendency since the mode represents the most typical value of the data … (and) the concept of the mode is also easily understood and is attractive as the most probable value" (Bickel, 2003). The fact that the mode represents the observation that is found with the most frequency, this measure of central tendency is used to define the probability center that exists within a data distribution, and when a single value is randomly extracted from any number set, the modal value will always be observable at a significantly higher statistical….....
