Using Incentive Spirometer

An incentive spirometer is a device used for maintaining the health of a patient's lungs in the aftermath of a surgery or in case of a lung disease like pneumonia. The purpose of this device is to teach the patient how to take deep breaths after surgery in order to enhance the health of lungs. The steps to using an incentive spirometer include placing the device's mouthpiece in the mouth in a way that ensures good seal using your lips, inhaling slowly and deeply via the mouthpiece, removing the mouthpiece when unable to inhale any longer and holding breath for a minimum of 3 seconds, and exhaling normally.

Patient's Need for Nebulizer Treatment

Nebulizer treatment is administered to help get medication to the lungs, which requires using the most effective method. Nurses determine that a patient requires nebulizer treatment when the patient has asthma and is having difficulties using an asthma inhaler. Therefore, the difficulty in using asthma inhaler is the most commonly used method by nurses to determine a patient's need for nebulizer treatment. During this period, the patient has difficulty getting medications to the lungs and need the nebulizer to get the medications to the lings through changing it from liquid to mist.
