Regardless of one's religious background or beliefs most people in the U.S. have a basic understanding of the tenet of the Holy Spirit in the Christian faith. The Holy Spirit is commonly understood as the Ghost of the trinity, "The Father, The Son and The Holy Ghost." When one receives the Holy Spirit into their heart and sole it is believed that the Lord has entered that person's heart and soul and is guiding them in their daily lives.

Christians often speak of the Holy Spirit moving them, or the fact that they felt the Holy Spirit enter their hearts. It is these and other common sayings that bring most of the western world to have at least a basic understanding of what the Holy Spirit is and how it pertains to the Christian Faith. While many people can give a general overview of what the Holy Spirit is, when pressed to discuss the Work of the Holy Spirit their eyes cloud over and they are not sure how to respond. The Work of the Holy Spirit is one of the most important factors to understand as the Work of the Holy Spirit provides an understanding of many of the Christian doctrines.

This paper will present a detailed examination of the Work of the Holy Spirit. The writer will begin by exploring the understanding of the Holy Spirit and what it means. There will be discussion about what it means to have the Holy Spirit "within" and how that affects the life of the Christian who has receive it. The writer will then delve into the Work of the Holy Spirit and some of the most important examples of that work throughout the history of Christianity. The writer will conclude with a summarization of the Work of the Holy Spirit and what it means to mankind, in the past, in the present and in the future. INTRODUCTION

There are many reasons to explore the Work of the Holy Spirit. Since Christianity was in its infancy its followers have moved to create a world of understanding when it comes to the life of Jesus Christ, the Christian prophet. Jesus was the son of God and the New Testament portrays his life, his sacrifices and the messages and words he brought to those who were ready to give their life to the Lord. The Holy Spirit is part of the trinity that revolves around the basic premise of the father, the son and the Holy Spirit. It is important to understand the Holy Spirit so that one can have a blueprint of what the bible wants for them and how the work of the Holy Spirit affects them and their lives.

The study of the work of the Holy Spirit is something that will take Christians into the faith in-depth and allow a more complete understanding of the importance of that work. The Work of the Holy Spirit provides a clear cut clarification of what is expected of Christians in many avenues of their life. It is important to understand the Work of the Holy Spirit in the beginning of the faith provides a narrative of the faith itself and the stronger connection with the trinity of which the Holy Spirit is a part of.

The Holy Spirit in Short Before one can fully grasp and understand the importance of the work of the Holy Spirit and its relationship to the continued success of the Christian Faith, it is important for one to have a grasp on the basic Holy Spirit and its use.

For one to understand the Work of the Holy Spirit, one must first accept the Christian acceptance and belief of how the Holy Spirit operates even today. The Holy Spirit is said to come and live within the hearts and souls of the Christians who accept Jesus as their savior.

The Holy Spirits is God and it is said that God resides within anyone who accepts Jesus. In fact, the Bible says, "if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ " (Romans 8: 9).

According to the faith, being filled with the Holy Spirit means that one turns their life over to be controlled by God. When one is filled with the Holy Spirit they give up their old ways and begin to make choices about their life based on the things that Christ taught.

And when we yield ourselves to Him and rely on Him (instead of ourselves), the Holy Spirit helps us to live the way we should." The Bible says, "the Spirit helps us in our weakness " (Romans 8: 26). "

The Holy Spirit is often considered the comforter of man. It is also the vehicle by which many gifts were brought to mankind, such as the gift of speaking in tongues. The gifts that were given to mankind incorporated the need of man for understanding as well as the support of God for that understanding. Christian churches world wide have times during their services in which they call for visitors to come forward if they feel the Holy Spirit move within them. This basic understanding is often all that is grasped by Christians who go on to lead clean and Christian lives. The Holy Spirit in individuals is believed to be the driving force that keeps them on their walk with God. The Holy Spirit and the work of the Holy Spirit is something that has been discussed throughout parts of the bible and its explanations provide strength and foundation for faith today and in the future.

The Holy Spirit Comes Out The understanding of the pouring out of the Holy Spirit is essential to the understanding of the work of the Holy Spirit. There are several references in the bible about the coming out of the Holy Spirit and the work that the Holy Spirit was responsible for.

I am with you, saith the Lord of Hosts, and My Spirit remaineth among you, fear ye not" (Hag. ii. 4., 5); and "This spake He of the Holy Spirit which they that believe should receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because that Jesus was not yet glorified" (John vii. 39).

The Holy Spirit Work was the work that laid the basic foundation for the acceptance of Jesus as the savior and the Lord living within Christian souls and hearts.

This prophecy evidently refers to an outpouring of the Holy Spirit that shall effect a work of salvation on a large scale, for it closes with the promise: "And the work of righteousness shall be peace, and the effect of righteousness, quietness, and assurance forever" (Isa. xxxii. 14-17).

The Holy Spirit was promised to the people before it poured itself out. It was promised by God and was said to be coming as the comforter of each individual by dwelling within those individuals. God promised that the Holy Spirit would work within each person even if the person had not accepted it within. The person would not feel the spirit until the belief was there, but the person would indeed have the Holy Spirit in them according to the bible.

The existence and the discovery of the newly installed Holy Spirit to the faith is evidenced throughout the bible passages dealing with the New Testament and the coming of the spirit according to the words of the Lord. "There seems to have been an actual descending of the Holy Spirit, for Ezekiel says: "The Spirit of the Lord fell upon me" (chap. xi. 5). Micah testified: "Truly I am full of the power by the Spirit of the Lord" (chap. iii. 8). Of John the Baptist it is written, that he should be filled with the Holy Ghost from his mother's womb -- Luke i. 15. Even the Lord Himself was filled with the Holy Spirit, whom He received without measure. That Spirit came upon Him at Jordan, how then could He be spoken of as still to come? -- a question all the more puzzling since we read that in the evening of the resurrection Jesus breathed upon His disciples, saying "Receive ye the Holy Ghost" (John xx. 22).
