Stuff at Home

There is a longstanding homemade cure that my family has consistently utilized to ward off any sort of manifestation of influenza. According to my mother, this particular concoction has demonstrated efficacy through the generations for warding off symptoms of a sore throat, coughs, sniffles, runny noses, and cold viruses. She told me how her mother gave her the recipe for it, and that in turn her mother's mother had given her the recipe for it. Thus, the proper way to create this beverage -- which functions as a tea of sorts -- has been disseminated down through my family lineage for quite some time.

Virtually all of the ingredients in this particular concoction have intrinsic curative powers for the human body. In all likelihood the most important of these ingredients is water. The body, of course, consists of as much as 80 or 85% water. When one has any sort of influenza symptoms it is important to remain well hydrated. In fact, there are very few conditions in which dehydration is the recommended state for the human body. Still, it is critical to note that it is necessary to boil all of the ingredients in this particular beverage for just two to three minutes before allowing it to cool for consumption. As is frequently the case when ingesting liquid remedies for colds, it is valuable to ingest this beverage while it is as hot as the 'patient' can stand, since the heat helps to relax and soothe otherwise sore and constricted passages in the human body.

Aside from the water, the most important ingredient in this remedy is likely the skin from a single red apple.
In preparing this skin it is advantageous to get as much of it on the apple as possible while avoiding the otherwise sweet fruit of the actual apple. It is important to utilize the skin of this particular fruit since it is particularly rich in quercetin. Quercetion is able to effect curative changes within the human body largely because it is a flavonoid. As such, it is useful when the body is stressed and worn out from the sort of exhausting symptoms that frequently accompany manifestations of influenza. Although there are certainly other sources of quercetin, some of the more notable include broccoli, onions, and various forms of tea, red apple helps to produce a savory flavor in this particular broth that has endured throughout the generations. Frankly, I make a point to eat apples daily, and I like the idea of putting the skin from this fruit in a panacea for cold-like symptoms.
