This article speaks about GM's newest U.S. plant, which is set, as of December 5, 2011, to receive an Energy Star certification for "superior energy efficiency" from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). In order to receive this raging, the 2006 plant, which is in Lansing and which is called the Lansing Delta Township Assembly Plant, had to, according to the article, "perform in the top 25% of similar facilities nationwide for energy efficiency and meet strict energy performance levels set by the EPA," for a year, from 2010-2011 (Wayland, P1, 2011).
