SWOT DescriptionSWOT Planning MethodologySWOT planning is a commonly used tool that can help organizations identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. This type of analysis can be helpful in a variety of situations, such as when developing a new service, launching a new campaign, or attempting to relate to or find support with a new demographic. The first step in the SWOT planning process is to identify the organization’s strengths. This could include things like a strong brand, loyal community or employee base, high-quality service record or performance, top-quality resources, or excellent personnel and stakeholders. Once the strengths have been identified, the next step is to identify the weaknesses. This could include things like gaps in training, lack of protocols and policies, poor community service, and so on.After the strengths and weaknesses have been identified, the next step is to identify the opportunities. These are areas where the organization can advance, grow, improve, or use to reach targets; they can include anything from the application of new technologies or trends (like drone usage in policing) to new methods in community policing. Finally, the last step is to identify the threats.
