Two Social Science Theoretical FrameworksThe two social science theoretical frameworks used by nurses when working with families in the communities are Systems Theory and Family Stress Theory. Systems Theory is an approach to understanding family dynamics which takes into account the interconnectedness of family members, the environments in which they operate, and how individual family members interact to produce a greater whole (Erriu et al., 2020). This framework argues that families need to be understood as holistic entities, with each member’s behavior having an effect on the functioning of the entire family. This theory can be helpful for nurses working with families as it allows them to analyze how interactions among family members influences their health decisions and behaviors (Tanhan & Strack, 2020).Family Stress Theory is another theoretical framework that looks at the role of coping strategies, health behavior, and stress experienced by family members in their daily lives (Wu & Xu, 2020). This theory focuses on the different sources of stress that exist within a family, as well as how families can develop effective coping strategies to deal with the stressors. This framework is especially helpful for nurses working with families as it provides an understanding of how the family system works and helps identify potential sources of stress and how to address them (Wong et al., 2019).
