Technical Description of Manchester United Football Club

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Manchester United Football Club (F.C.) is one of the most renowned, financially successful, and popular in the world. Although based in Old Trafford, Manchester, England, the team has fans around the world. Manchester United is known colloquially as "Man-U."

Manchester United F.C. is part of the English premier league, the most elite strata of English football. The club has earned the most trophies in English football, and is also highly decorated in international competitions including a win at the FIFA Club World Cup. Manchester United is the only English team to have won the "treble," the triple crown of football: as champions of the Premier League, the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League in the 1998-1999 season.

Manchester United F.C. has a long history, forming first in 1878 as the Newton Heath LYR Football Club, admitted to the Football League in 1892, and becoming known as Manchester United in 1902.
