What do you know about character's personality from beginning to the end of the story?



From the book, the personality of Ponyboy, who is both the narrator and protagonist of the story, significantly changes from the start to the end. He goes through one of the most significant life changing events that end up fashioning and transforming his character from being introverted, compassionate, and mixed up regarding life to being assertive, less frightened, and shrewder and several other qualities. The author indicates what the life of an individual can be when he or she faces various life transforming situations. In the case of Ponyboy, he commences as a young child being raised up in the life of a usual greaser. As the story progresses toward the middle, he goes through some traumatic occurrences that begin fashioning and altering his personality as he gains new opinions about life. Towards the culmination, Ponyboy is a changed individual and has a profound understanding of life (Hinton, 2012).



What words and descriptions does the author use to show you the character's personality?



Various words and descriptions are used by the author to demonstrate the personality of Ponyboy. A good description includes being fearful. This is seen not only at the start, but also midway the storyline. The character is fearful of the violence he experiences with the Socs, which eventually leads to the death of an individual. At the end of the book, the author used the words, "Stay Gold" as uttered by Johnny to mean a new and refreshed person. This indicates his personality change to become nice, kind and evades violence.




What are the character's strengths and weaknesses?



Ponyboy does have a number of strengths. In particular, his literary interests together with his academic achievements are strong suits that set him apart from the other greasers. As pointed out in the book, Ponyboy's parents passed on after having a car accident, and although his brother incessantly proclaims that he lacks common sense, Ponyboy's strong points include being a dependable and perceptive narrator. One of the key weaknesses of Ponyboy takes into account the fact that he has the perspective of being trapped by class divisions and society as a whole. He constantly has the belief that since he is a greaser, he does not have the capability or the opportunity to undertake anything satisfactory or great with his life. Basically, his major weakness is that he constantly puts himself down (Hinton, 2012).



How does the main character treat other characters?



Ponyboy Curtis is a selfless person. He treats other characters in the story with care, particularly his friends in the Greaser gang. For instance, during the church fire, Ponyboy dashes to try and save the children. He also treats other characters with empathy. Throughout the story, Ponyboy is able to relate to an extensive assortment of emotions from the different characters. For instance, despite being a Soc, Pony takes times to listen and converse with Cherry, something that he is not expected to do. He relates to the aspect that her issues are just….....
